Terminator: Dawn of Fate

(Early Look)

While the thought of a movie-based video game will have many running for cover in terror of the imminent doom that such a title almost certainly brings, Infogrames appear to be quite the optimists as they work on a new game based in the universe of the Terminator movies.  Being developed both for the XBox and the PS2 the game is looking like your standard 3rd person shoot ‘em up affair.  Now all we can do is wait and see if the wanton destruction is engaging enough to maintain our attention.

Like pretty much everything to do with the Terminator this game is all about making sure that John Connor, the leader of the resistance and chap ultimately responsible for the demise of Skynet and its genocide ways, doesn’t die.  This time the game takes place in 2029, well after Skynet launched all the nuclear missiles and was finishing up wiping out the human race.  Despite taking place in the future this game is a prequel to the movies, as the goal of the game is to destroy Skynet and send Kyle Reese back in time so that he can stop the original Terminator from killing John’s mother, Sarah.

While blasting through the game’s 12 levels players will be have three different characters at their command.  First there’s Kyle Reese, the guy you’re trying to send to the past.  Next there is Catherine Luna who is a special ops officer, and lastly there is a yet unnamed character that is being kept secret at the moment.  While fighting all manner of mechanized human hunting evil players will have over a dozen energy weapons in their arsenal.  It also appears that NPCs will help from time to time in the battles in an effort to get your team where they need to be.

So far Terminator: Dawn of Fate is looking like traditional action gaming, blast everything that moves fair.  At the end of the day what will make or break the game is whether or not the pace is fast and the fighting furious.  And so the waiting game begins…
