Transformers Armada: Prelude to Energon

Every little boy (and possibly little girls) likes both robots and cars, so it makes sense they'd love the Transformers. Other than some terrible computer and Famicom games years ago, there surprisingly has never been much on the video game front. That's changing thanks to the resurgence of the series' popularity within the last few years, and now Atari is bringing out Transformers Armada to the PS2.

 

Not far in the future, the Autobots (read: good guys) are fighting the Decepticons (read: not so good guys.) Some young kids stumble across a stash of Mini-cons, little robots that increase various powers of the robots. So you can pick your favorite Autobot, explore the terrain to collect Mini-cons, and bash the heck out of any Decepticons that you see. Naturally you can assume the regular giant robot form or transform into various vehicles.

Beyond the basic concept, there hasn't been much information released, though it seems to be a pretty standard action/platformer game. There's no doubt that the

graphics look incredible, but hopefully Atari won't pull a copout and force this title to work on license alone. Then again, the fact that this title even exists should please the rather fervent Transformers fanbase. Look forward to it this summer.
