Wild Arms Alter Code: F
Long ago, when the Playstation was establishing its presence in the gaming market, an RPG came along called Wild Arms. It was standard fair for the genre, as it centered around a young lad and his friends fighting off a horde of demons intent on destroying the world. The game didn't go out of its way to re-invent the wheel, but it did mark the first RPG to be done in 3D, and proved to be a satisfying experience for its time, especially considering that Final Fantasy VII wasn't on North American shores yet, and the only other competition it had at the time was Beyond the Beyond (*shudder*). Now, eight years after its initial release, the game is getting a remake for the Playstation 2, complete with the expected nips, tucks, and tweaks with Wild Arms Alter Code: F.

The most noticeable difference this time around will come in players having a total of six playable characters at their disposal, including the original three characters of Wild Arms: Rudy, the young boy who has gotten his mitts on some ancient technology called ARMs, the princess Cecelia, and the sword-wielding treasure hunter, Jack. Joining the original three characters this time are three NPCs that players encountered in the original Wild Arms who are now playable characters, including "Calamity Jane" Maxwell who is a gunslinger with a taste for treasure, McDullen, Calamity Jane's butler, and an accomplished swordsman in his own right, and Emma, a researcher of ARMs technology. |

With this doubling of the number of playable characters at one's disposal, some tweaks have been made to the battle system in Alter Code F. Now, players will have a character swapping option similar to that introduced in Final Fantasy X, where one could swap out a character currently in the battle line-up, for a fresh one sitting on the sidelines.
Alter Code F will also feature some adjustments to the original game's storyline, as well as the expected graphical overhaul. As the Wild Arms series has progressed, it has managed to wrangle up quite the cult following over the years. Now it's just a question as to whether these adjustments to the original game will or won't be embraced by the fans of the series, and newcomers alike.
