Ninety-Nine
Nights
Ever
since the game was announced, a lot of people have been very curious as
to what Tetsuya Mizuguchi has planned for the Xbox 360 action title,
Ninety-Nine Nights.From
the day it was unveiled, gamers were greeted by some very nice visuals,
and what looked to be equally intense combat. Now, as the game nears completion, we’ll take a closer look as
to what may just make this title special.
Those
who have seen the footage of the gameplay in store for Ninety-Nine
Nights will have noticed scene after scene depicting players facing off
against hordes of orcs, and other sorts of bad guys.As it may suggest, the core of this game’s action is similar to
that of Dynasty Warriors, with players fighting legions of enemies,
peppered with mini-bosses along the way, watching their character’s
body count climb rapidly.
However,
what will make Ninety-Nine Nights stand out from other such frenetic
action games are the little things that players will be able to do
during each battle, which, when combined, should help to round out the
gameplay.Firstly, as
players wipe out enemies, the
bad guys will
leave behind little red orbs, which are absorbed by one’s character,
slowly filling a gauge.Once
this gauge is full, players will be able to unload super-powered
attacks.Also, characters
slowly gain experience in battle, and as they get stronger they will
learn new attacks, again adding more options to characters’ combat
repertoire.
When
players aren’t busy cutting down hordes of monsters, they’ll be
watching the game’s plot unfold. The basic premise behind Ninety-Nine Nights is that a massive
crystal has shattered, causing two huge holes to appear in the world,
one white, the other black.Now
players have to close them.What
should help to add

some
replay value to the game is that there are several different characters
one can play as, each with their own ambitions, and as such, depending
on who one plays at, the narrative will change accordingly.
As
it stands, Ninety-Nine Nights should be out in Japan in a couple of
months, which likely means that gamers in North America still have a bit
of a wait ahead of them. Then
again, considering how small the Xbox 360 fan base in Japan is, and how
large it is in America by comparison, it wouldn’t surprise us if
Microsoft already had people doing preliminary work on translating this
game for our own market.
