Forza Motorsport

The Xbox has at least a decent racing library, with Project Gotham Racing 2 leading the pack, but it's lacked the sort of serious gearhead title to do straight up against Gran Turismo. That fallacy will soon be corrected with the upcoming Forza Motorsport from Microsoft Game Studios.

Microsoft is aiming to make this the most gorgeous racing sim out there, which shouldn't be too hard, giving the processing power of their green machine. But not content to merely having it look pretty, it's boasting insanely realistic physics as well, with an actual damage

model to control how your car maneuvers after getting banged up.

There's an impressive selection of car manufacturers lending their models to the game, including Nissan, Honda, BMW, Porsche and Ferrari, with over 60 in total. Full of customization options, you can decorate the outside of cars with paint jobs and decals, or fine-tune pretty much any aspect of your car. And there's also the usual selection of real world courses, including the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife, one of the most challenging race circuits on the planet.

For the most part, these are all claims you find for most racing games, and are pretty much necessary just to make the game remotely level with Gran Turismo 3, much less its upcoming sequel.  But Microsoft is putting lots of effort to actually making it fun to race against opponents, instead of brainless bots. You can train AI drivers to race against, or you can head online to go against actual people. Both of these features should elevate the game's playability far beyond what's on the market. Forza Motorosport is due out early next years.

Features:

Collect models from over 60 top manufacturers like Mazda, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, and Dodge. Trick out sport compacts with real-world body kits, rims, spoilers, decals, side skirts, fender flares and hood scoops, or add motorsport decals and team paint-schemes to supercars, GT racers and exotics.

Install alternative engines, suspension kits, bolt-on superchargers, brakes, rims, racing slicks and more. Fine-tune gear ratios, fuel-mapping, forced induction pressure, tire temperature & pressure and ignition timing.

Train AI "Drivatars" to race against, or race against live opponents with Xbox Live.
