Shadow Ops: Red Mercury

It seems that more and more today game developers are concentrating their attention to “secret operations”, “stealth”, and, most importantly, the killing of middle-eastern terrorists. Move over Conflict Desert Storm and Delta Force, there’s a new sheriff coming to town. In development by Zombie Studios, Shadow Ops pits the player as either a USA or European elite fighting unit who takes to the streets ranging from the ever present middle-east to European backdrops. Using the Unreal engine, one of the best and most refined engines available, Shadow Ops promises to deliver realism on an entirely new level. Here is the list of features courtesy of Atari, the games publisher:

- The most realistic, immersive, shell-shocked battlefield experience ever!

- Full multiplayer experience with split-screen and Xbox Live support (modes include: plant the bomb, VIP escort, capture the flag and more)

- Take a seat in military vehicles to speed your way to victory (also available in multiplayer mode)

- Mix all-out assault with stealth infiltration in your mission to prevent disaster

- Incredible plot that sees YOU on the trail of lethal terrorists

- Join forces with other elite fighting units from the USA and Europe

  - Makes use of enhanced Unreal® engine technology for unparalleled graphical realism

- Places and sounds modeled on real-world locations for total immersion

- Use the Xbox Live headset to communicate with teammates and taunt the enemy

- Hollywood production values – music, sound and scanning technology as used by the biggest blockbusters

- Motion capture moves provided by ex-Special Forces operatives

So far, Shadow Ops is shaping up nicely. Don’t expect another clone of Conflict Desert Storm here, as the features of Shadow Ops are enough to latch gamers’ attention.

Realism is imperative for today’s gamers, and Shadow Ops has all the makings of a fine military shooter with great replay value and authentic military weapons and tactics. For the Xbox Live buffs out there, with more than three different game modes, Rainbow Six 3 might have to step down as the king of Xbox Live.

Zombie Studios previous games include the Spec Ops series, Delta Force: Task Force Dagger, and Wanted: Dead or Alive, all of which are military shooters.
