Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol
Nintendo’s Chibi Robo for the GameCube came out of practically nowhere and surprised gamers with its adorable charm and gigantic landscapes. Now they’re miniaturizing the tiny little robot even more for his trip to the DS in Chibi Robo: Park Patrol. The original game’s goal was simply about spreading happiness and joy to as many people as possible. Park Patrol expands on that and gives a whole park for Chibi to watch over. It’s your job to build a playground, maintain the landscape, and fend off mysterious enemies who are scaring visitors away. There are a host of vehicles to find, including buggies and boats, expanding on some of the elements that were never fully fleshed out in the original. So far, this sequel seems to be focusing on some simple simulation elements, rather than just the exploration of the original. This is all a little bit silly, but that’s part of Chibi Robo’s charm. concern so far is whether the DS can handle it – the first game was so impressive because the gigantic landscapes gave a huge sense of scale, and the E3 demo portrayed the park as being rather sparse. There’s no set release date, so hopefully that will give developer Skip plenty of time to flesh it out with all of the little details that makes Chibi Robo so addictive.
