There are a lot of people out there that like Martians. UFOs, little grey men, anal probing devices, there’s just this undeniable charm and mystique surrounding the whole space alien phenomenon. Now Midway has a new FPS in the works, taking place in possibly the most notorious place for Martian activity, Area 51.

The game follows the exploits of Ethan Cole as his HAZMAT team are sent to Area 51 after and infection has spread there, causing the facility to go into lockdown. It

turns out that this virus has mutagenic properties that have caused the staff at Area 51 to turn into some pretty nasty beasts. On top of this, an ancient alien colony has been discovered beneath the base. With that Mr. Cole has his work cut out for him as he fends off mutants while figuring out the significance of the colony.

Features:

Area 51 and attempt to discover the secrets of the extraterrestrial menace before it’s too late in this 1st person shooter experience that focuses on action, adventure and exploration.
• Online Multiplayer Combat—Compete against friends via 4-player split screen and system link, or battle it out online with your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system or via Xbox™ Live where players can easily take on opponents worldwide, find friends and set up their own matches.
• Fearsome Weaponry—Players are armed with more than 10 types of human and alien weapons as they explore the dark and menacing corridors of Area 51.
• Biological Mutations—An infectious mutagen has given players alien-enhanced physical abilities but is slowly transforming them into an alien.
They must find the cure before it’s too late and their humanity is lost.
• Government Conspiracies—Discover the real answers behind such conspiracy theories as the alien autopsy and faked lunar landing.
• Alien Menace—Face off against a horde of horrific creatures designed by Stan Winston Studios, monster creator for such films as Aliens, Jurassic Park and Predator.

The game seems to be covering all the bases as to what players come to expect from an FPS. What will be the biggest hurtle is creating well laid out maps for the levels, as well as making sure the weapons are appropriately spiffy for a game in this genre.
