Beyond Good & Evil

For some reason, when I first read about this game, the old phrase from The X-Files, “The truth is out there” sprang to my mind.  No, this game doesn’t star a redheaded doctor with a flair for forensic science and an unwavering level of steadfast skepticism, nor does it feature a conspiracy theorist who believes in aliens and has an insatiable appetite for porn.  What this game does have that reminds me of the X-Files is a main character who is out to discover the truth.

In Ubi Soft’s latest foray into stealth-based gaming, the planet Hyllis has been under attack by aggressive alien invaders, where one of its residents, Jade, is fighting tooth and nail to defend the island on which she lives.  Eventually Jade collapses from exhaustion in her struggle and is assaulted by unusual visions.  When she comes to, the planet’s government insists that everything is now under control, but Jade remains skeptical.  Eventually she comes into contact with an underground resistance that confirms her suspicions that everything is anything but smiles and sunshine like the government would like the population to believe.
