Capcom Classics Collection

Back in the Playstation/Saturn era, Japanese gamers were lucky enough to get several compilations of Capcom arcade games. With five discs in total, the Capcom Generation series was separated by themes - one contained the overhead shooters Mercs, Commando and Gun Smoke, one had all of the Ghosts and Goblins games, and another had all of the of the 1942/1943 games. The only one released in America was the Street Fighter 2 disc. Now with the success of other compilation discs (like Midway's Arcade Treasures and their own Mega Man Collection), Capcom is bundling all of these together, along with several other games and releasing it for the Playstation 2 and Xbox.

Although many of the games on this disc got home conversions, we've never got them arcade perfect before. Finally, we can play two player Final Fight with all of the characters, stages and without the censorship of the other versions. Now we also have pixel perfect

conversions of Forgotten Worlds, Section Z and Legendary Wings. Perhaps the most intriguing is the arcade version of Bionic Commando - drastically inferior to the NES and Gameboy iterations, but an interesting game nonetheless. Although many of these games are from the late 80s, there are a few titles from the early Capcom years, including Son Son (starring the monkey girl of the same name who showed up in Marvel vs Capcom 2), Higemaru and Vulgus.

This is an excellent history lesson here - Mercs and 1943 are some of the finest arcade blast-em-ups

of their time, and the inclusion of the different Street Fighter II iterations makes up for the some slipshod version of Street Fighter Anniversary Edition. All in all, this should make old school gaming fans quite happy when it hits in the summer.
