As Capcom slowly shifts its popular franchises to the newest generation of consoles, one game that a lot of people are going to want to keep an eye on is Devil May Cry 4.  In recent years, Devil May Cry has become one of Capcom’s hottest properties in recent years.  The fourth installment looks to continue the stylist, fast-paced gameplay that has made its predecessors so popular, while introducing a new protagonist, and making the leap into becoming a multi-platform series.

While Dante remains an important character in the series mythology during Devil May Cry 4, players will instead take control of a man named Nero.  During the timeframe of the game, a fanatical religious organization calling itself the “Order of the Sword” has taken form.  This group has taken a liking to the Dark Knight Sparda and what he stood for, and is now trying to continue his mission to rid the world of demons.  This is where Nero comes in, as he is a Holy Knight of the

Order, and has been trying to accomplish this mission.  However, he witnesses Dante wipe out a number of his fellow knights, which leaves Nero wondering what is going on.  He has idolized Dante for hunting demons, but now his hero is killing Nero’s brethren.  Why?  This and a number of other questions will be addressed in the game.

Since this game sees the introduction of a new hero, it also means that players will have a variety of new moves at their disposal as well.  The most notable new skill that Nero will have is his Devil Bringer ability that allows him to unleash massive combos on enemies while absorbing power into his right arm.  Core controls in the game will be similar to that found in Devil May Cry 3 with attack, jump, movement control, and so forth proving to be very familiar to those who have played previous games in the series.  There will also be a return to the ranking system based on how much damage players can dish out without getting hit themselves.

Not surprisingly, the graphics here will be a big step up over the previous games since the series is moving to the newer consoles now.  With that, players can expect more stylish environments, beasts, and characters, with far more detail in their appearances than that found in previous installments in the series.  What may prove most interesting are how odd the monsters in the game look.  In the previous games, players fought against all manner of bizarre creatures.  With the added graphical power at designers’ disposal for this game, they should be able to take these strange creatures in all sorts of new directions.

It’s always exciting when a popular series has a new entry in the pipes, and Devil May Cry 4 is no exception.  With the recent news that the series will no longer be a PlayStation exclusive, things got much more interesting, as a slew of new gamers will be able to enjoy the series as well.  Hopefully part four here will be up to the challenge.
