Fantastic Four

Final Fight-style beat-em-ups have not been doing so well these days, with failures like The  Bouncer and Fighting Force still lingering in people's minds. But what better way to give the genre a punch in the face than by infusing it with The Fantastic Four, the comic book heroes currently due to star in their own movie this summer.

Playing as any member of the foursome: the stretchy guy Mr. Fantastic, the sneaky Invisible girl, the firey Human Torch, or the monstrous Thing – up to two players can live out their comic book fantasies by smashing and breaking through the evil drones of metallic overlord Doctor Doom. Each character has their own attacks - Mr. Fantastic can whack bad guys from across the room with his extending limbs, while the Human Torch can set baddies on fire, obviously - but the real draw is being able to switch heroes on the fly and create some devastating combos. Each character will have a huge moveset, with the ability to upgrade them through points earned in combat.

The less said about the previous Fantastic Four games, the better. But Activision's X-Men Legends turned out to be competent, and while the Fantastic Four is more about bashing than stat building, the variety of super hero powers should instill some variety in a genre known for its brash repetitiveness. Regardless, 7 Studios, developer of Legion: The Legend of Excalibur and the new Defender have their work cut out for them.

Features:

- Based on the upcoming movie, with a script written by Zak Penn, writer of Elektra and co-writer of X2

- Two player simultaneous action, with the ability to switch between characters on the go

- Pit the heroes against each other in a battle arena

- Kurt Kalata
