From
Russia With Love
Without
a doubt my favorite Bond film, From Russia With Love is one of those
motion pictures I can watch again and again. It has
everything! Besides a serving of explosions and shoot-outs it has
sizzling belly dancers, a chick fight (in the book, they actually fight
topless), and probably Bond's most unnerving villain encounter with
Donald "Red" Grant (as played by Robert Shaw). With
the past experience of Electronic Arts bringing movie licensed games to
the stage of respectability with the likes of the Lord of the Rings
action games, From Russia With Love might actually stand a chance at
being a solid action game if...
...
the developers give gamers more credit than was given than with Batman
Begins, which practically screamed, "Okay dumb-ass, throw a
batarang now!" and lead even the most inept gamer safely from start
to finish with its not-so-obvious prodding. Really, that's my only
concern -- just read the official facts and hypetails as they are from
EA:
From

universe of the classic James Bond films.Set in the original 60’s Bond era, the game features

On
the surface, there doesn't appear to be that much difference between
007: Everything or Nothing (starring Pierce Brosnan) and From Russia
With Love, although the role-playing elements -- updating Bond's stats
-- might offer some variety.
Also,
in terms of variety, From Russia With Love should hit the mark.
We've seen the screens of Bond wearing his jetpack, but there's also
mention of cars and it would be a major, major failing if there
isn't a boat level. If you've seen the film, you know what I'm
talking about -- while escaping in a boat Bond uses a flare gun and
several barrels of gas to shake some pursuers. Ensuring such key
scenes appear in the game are absolutely critical and From Russia With
Love features enough set pieces, like the shootout at the gypsy camp,
that should translate extremely well into a game scenario.
Finally,
having Sean Connery onboard... well, it should be a sign of things to
come. Almost any Bond film could be made into a game -- imagine
the possibilities of the skiing levels of On Her Majesty's Secret
Service -- but they should be done soon. The actors who have
played Bond are all still alive but everyone dies or enters a period of
declining health as EA discovered when they tapped Marlon Brando for the
recently-delayed, The Godfather. (Apparently, the sound of the
breathing machine Mr. Brando used made most of the recorded dialogue
useless.) Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, none of
them are getting any younger. But as I was writing, having Sean
Connery involved can only be a good thing -- and will certainly please
all those that say he was/is the penultimate Bond.
