Hunted: The Demon's Forge
It would seem that the folks at inXile Entertainment want to bring the role-playing genre back to its roots with their upcoming game, Hunted: The Demon's Forge. Feeling that RPGs have been drifting too much towards being like action games, the man behind the game, Brian Fargo, wants Hunted to have a feel more akin to classic dungeon crawlers a la Dungeons and Dragons, or some of the other classic computer RPGs of the 1980s.
Hunted won't be trying to reinvent fantasy role-playing, instead embracing many of its tropes. It takes place in the world of Kala Moor, with all sorts of medieval European elements to the environments, plenty of monsters wandering the lands, magic users and mercenaries. It's a fairly straightforward mix of things one would expect from an RPG.

Gameplay itself will encourage co-op play, as their are two main characters in the game doing away with the evils that face Kala Moor: Caddoc and E'lara. As mentioned earlier, the core of what Hunted is going for is revisiting the dungeon crawler, while fusing it various more modern elements. So far, we know that this will entail plenty of exploration, and looking |

for secrets while navigating the various dungeons, while including some fast-paced, visceral combat, and a decent bit of character development over the course of the game.
Running on the Unreal 3 Engine, Hunted is looking very good at such an early stage in its development. The environments, enemies, and so forth all have a lot of detail to them. One thing gamers will notice while taking a look see at the visuals is that they are also quite gory. There's a lot of blood flying around in this game, with some exception very gruesome monsters lurking about.
We've still got a ways to go before Hunted: The Demon's Forge comes out, but it does look like the folks at inXile have a lot of stuff that they want to do with the game. If they can do a good job of combining classic dungeon crawling with more modern gameplay elements, we could have quite a fun game on our hands here.
