Jackass: The Game

There haven’t been any new television episodes of Jackass since 2003 and the second Jackass movie came out more than a year ago.  In terms of timing Jackass: The Game seems completely out of step.  Licensed properties are supposed to have game tie-ins launch at the same time!  It’s a violation of natural gaming law.

But speaking of “violation” Jackass: The Game looks like it will live up to its source material’s inanity and crude and often painful approach to producing “entertainment.”  Billed as an action adventure across 35 scenarios, players will take on the roles of Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and presumably the rabble of usual Jackass stars since the likes of Wee Man, Preston Lacey, Ryan Dunn, Chris Pontius,

Ehren McGhehey and Dave England since they all lend their likenesses and voices to the game.

The “entertainment” in this case will not be constrained by the usual laws of physics (though ragdoll is in full force) and risk of real injury so when gamers are racing golf carts through neighborhoods or spinning down a hill inside a garbage can or

launching into the back of a truck or tattooing someone while they ride a mechanical pony or running around in a jockstrap there’s no danger of damage to the cranium or any other extremity.

The PSP and PS2 versions seem to be the one fans of the series and films will want to look into, since those versions will feature behind the scenes footage.  The PSP version is the only version that will allow saving and sharing (via Wifi) replay videos.

Jackass: The Game may appeal to a narrow audience, but it certainly looks like Red Mile is doing everything they can to deliver an experience that fans will like.
