Juiced

Racing games that embrace the import scene have been around for a while now, so much so that the trend has moved beyond, well, trendy-ness, to becoming just another accepted sub-genre in racing. With that, Juiced Games is bringing their own take on the subculture to the Playstation, Xbox, and PC with Juiced. Will it be the next dazzling street racer a la Midnight Club, or the next disappointing pretend like Street Racing Syndicate? Only time will tell.

Juiced will have 50 cars from a variety of manufacturers including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Dodge, Ford, Mazda, and Mitsubishi, among others, but the real meat of the game will come in how players are able to customize their ride. To help meet this demand, the game will include hundreds of custom parts from companies like AEM, Konig, HKS, and several other well-known manufacturers of aftermarket automotive goodies. One customizable area that stands out in the game is that people will be able to tweak their racing crew, not just their car. It’ll be interesting to see how swapping different grease monkeys in and out of the mix will affect one's race.

The game will also be pushing the whole “street cred” thing, as players have to race for respect and improve their reputation among the local racers. There’s no word if the game will go for any sort of T and A factor like that found in Street Racing Syndicate, but let’s hope Juiced Games decides to skip it, or at least make it significantly more tasteful. It was just sad how this was handled in SRS.

Making a well-designed game will only be half the challenge for the developers of Juiced. With street racing games already having two major contenders cornering the

market (Midnight Club and NFS: Underground), as well as legions of Me Too games cluttering store shelves, the real question is whether or not gamers have had their fill of the sub-genre for the time being.
