Midway Arcade Treasures

I was such a fan of the arcade version of Smash TV that I wrote background stories for Mutoid Man, the host, and the red and blue clad protagonists.  And who knows how many quarters I dropped into that machine – all in the name of “character research”.   So when I got wind that Midway was set to release a compilation of classic arcade games – including Smash TV! – I could hardly maintain my journalistic integrity and objectivity.  It’s like the Ancient Arcade Gods looked down from their mountain and answered my own personal prayers.

Sure, the remakes and ports were all great nods to the arcade games but we finally have the level of technology that can completely replicate those old games – without skimping on the details or feeling bad for downloading illegal ROMs to your PC.  But here’s the low-down from Midway:

Midway Arcade Treasures is jam packed with over 20 classic arcade games including all-time favorites SpyHunter, Defender, Gauntlet, Joust and more for the first-time on next generation consoles.

Take a trip down memory lane with more than 20 video games you loved to play at the arcade. Including, the fast pace action of SpyHunter, the multi-player collaboration of Gauntlet, the space age adventure of Defender, and the dueling combat of Joust; the Midway Arcade Treasures has hundreds of hours of classic gameplay action.

And that’s not all! This ultimate arcade collection also contains cool DVD content with game histories, creator interviews and top secrets from back in the day.

1 and 2 player games.

Even without the DVD extras, this should be one solid gaming package, especially for anyone that grew up in the ‘80s and spent time at the arcade.  Frankly, there’s not much to screw up – except for one thing.  Midway specifies “1 and 2 player games”, which begs the question, “Will Rampage support three simultaneous players?”  Egads, I hope so!

The waiting time for Midway Arcade Treasures is short – it’s planned for release this month.
