Playboy: The Mansion

A simulation based on the famous Playboy mansion. Who’d of thought that we would ever see the day that a simulation/strategy game would be based on controlling an adult magazine’s mansion. With the massive success of the Sims, it seems inevitable that we will begin to see a more diverse offering of games in this genre, which in my mind can only be a good thing. After all, who wouldn’t want to work on improving on an already developed mansion and magazine empire.  In the game you play as Hugh Hefner, and you can play through some of the scenarios he had to face in creating his successful empire.

Here’s the official scoop:

Playboy: The Mansion blends state-of-the-art social simulation with traditional role-playing and empire-building gameplay. As Hugh Hefner, you build the Playboy Mansion and magazine into a dynamic cultural icon and powerful brand. Rub shoulders with stunning women and celebrities as you pursue the ultimate Playboy lifestyle. Grow famous and gain exclusive access to the Playboy Archives, including footage of the world-famous Playboy Mansion.

Features:

Experience the Mansion in a 3D environment with a dynamic, zoomable camera. Zoom out and admire the majesty of each Mansion area or zoom in and view the excitement up close.

Recreate multiple Playboy estate areas, including the inside of the Mansion, Back Lawn, Pool and Grotto, Gym, Tennis Court, Zoo, Game House and Garage.

Party with tons of Celebrities, including actors, athletes, authors, business executives, comedians, fashion designers, models, musicians, politicians, racecar drivers and scientists.

Relive history in Campaign Mode - A dozen campaigns that chronicle Hugh Hefner and the Playboy Mansion's rise to international fame.

Challenge yourself in Empire Mode - Select your own goals (fame, circulation, guests, etc) and then work over a series of months or years to achieve them.

Live the Playboy Philosophy - You're rewarded for living the good life, having a positive sexual attitude and promoting tolerance and individual freedom.

It seems like there will be quite a number of objectives and game modes. First, you will be able to add to the already decadent mansion by adding new items and new parts. This will help you in entertaining the guests you have over. This leads into the campaign objectives, where you will need to complete certain objectives by throwing parties and convincing your guests to do a specific task for you by showing them a good time.

The interface is very close to that found in The Sims, with emphasis on “relationship” building during character interactions – it should be instantly familiar to anyone who has played The Sims.  The photo shoots are slightly different in that you setup the lighting, decide what the model is going to wear, etc. then start snapping pictures.  (There’s no full-frontal nudity, but the models can be topless.)

Of course what would the game be without the women of Playboy. One portion of the game will also have you doing photo shoots of the Playmates. Of course, you will need to ask women to do these shoots, and they will be more likely to be convinced if you show them a good time during the parties you throw. While the game seems like it could have been raunchy, the developers are being fairly conservative in maintaining a Mature rating. They believe that the gameplay should be able to sell itself rather than resorting to pure titillation for sales. While the screenshots available and the official description seem to be a little vague on what the actual gameplay mechanics will be like, we will be able to find out for ourselves, as the game will be available this winter.
