R-Racing Evolution

It certainly seems like a long time since we’ve seen a new installment in the Ridge Racer series.  Ridge Racer V only came out during the launch of the PS2, and that was only about two years ago.  The barrage of Ridge Racer titles to come out on the PSX (Ridge Racer, Ridge Racer Revolution, Rage Racer, and R4: Ridge Racer Type 4) certainly came fast and furious, so it’s to be expected that there is a lot more anticipation than ever for the latest outing for the Ridge Racer franchise.  Possibly even more so thanks to the game being multi-platform this time out.

R-Racing will be following in the steps of R4 is terms of providing a story mode for players.  Not much is known as to what this story may entail, but this editor will hazard a guess that it will involve either a)  a hard on his/her luck driver trying to get that much sought after championship, or b)  a rookie to the racing scene out to prove that they have what it takes to be the champ.  If Namco can prove me wrong and throw in a story that’s both fresh and engaging, veering well clear of the few, and horribly clichéd, tales woven in past racing games that have opted for a narrative mode, then kudos to them.
