The Red Star

Based on the acclaimed comic book series, The Red Star sees Sorceress-Major Maya Antares, her elite bodyguard Kyuzo, and a hardened street fighter named Makita sentenced to death by a corrupt government. Guided by the ghost of a great fallen hero, a Sorceress-Commander known only as The Red Woman, this ragtag group must rally their people and free their country from political tyranny.

Red Star's character-based gameplay blends fighting and shooting, allowing the player to control the three title characters with varying play results. Stunning special attacks and arcade-like replayability further complete this high-octane package. Although the setup is promising, the comic book tie-in will breed caution among certain gamers. Money-conscious developers have long resorted to pillaging other genres to make a quick buck, often
resulting in tepid, unoriginal titles. It is easy to see Red Star falling into this pattern: named as one of Wizard Magazine's Top 100 comic book series of all

time, its fanbase seems ripe for the picking. Comic book enthusiasts will find this purchase a no-brainer. Genuinely fresh ideas and a slick execution should provide incentive for the rest of us.
