The Roots

Xbox owners have every right to be miffed about the terrible state the console has been in over its lifetime when it comes to RPGs.  There were a few gems to be released for it like Fable and Morrowind, and to a lesser extent Sudeki.  But when the dust settles, the Xbox just won’t be remembered for its RPGs.  Helping to correct this, Polish developer Tannhauser Gate are working on a new fantasy RPG for the Xbox called The Roots (the game is also headed to PC).

The back story for the game tells of a great battle between the gods and the demons that happened eons ago, led by the Demon Lord on the forces of evil versus the Lady of Life on the forces of good.  In time, the Demon Lord was destroyed, and his essence was scattered throughout the world, while the Tree of the Elements maintained balance in the realm.  Over time, however, the tree began to lose its power, and those who once served the Demon

Lord long ago were making a move to resurrect their leader.  This is where the game’s hero, Yan, steps in, and the game begins as players embark on a quest to keep this from happening.

Taking an action RPG route, The Roots’ battle system appears to be going for a somewhat faster pace when it comes to combat.  It’s difficult to tell exactly how this will play out, however, since the developer has been fairly tight-lipped on the matter, though we do know some characters will be able to summon magical helpers into battle.

Really, what the Xbox library could use is a shot in the arm for its RPG section.  Of course, it’ll also have to be a good game.  Now all we can do is wait and see if this turns out to be the case when The Roots gets released later this year.
