Two Worlds

Some people like to do the right thing, and bring as much happiness as they can to as many people as possible.  Others like to push buttons, and flirt with dark intentions.  It’s just the way the world is, and has been for thousands of years.  The world of videogames, has been playing around with ethics for years now, often times giving players the chance to carve out their own fate.  Now it's Zuxxez and Reality Pump that plan to bombard gamers with moral dilemmas in their upcoming RPG, Two Worlds for the PC and Xbox 360, which will not only determine the morality of gamers' alter ego, but also the direction that the game goes in.

Set in a world where orcs and man are at an uneasy peace, a group of dwarven miners have stumbled across a buried tomb, which may contain the fallen orc god, Azriaal.  This discovery has raised tensions considerably, as the orcs now see this as a holy crusade to recover their deity, and return to power like they enjoyed centuries earlier.  While this chaos is swirling around, players take control of a lone adventurer, the only survivor from what was a once

party of four, and must now figure out how they will deal with what is happening.  This is where a lot of decision making will come in, as players can choose to take sides however they please.  Whatever one does will impact their standing with the various factions of the game, and how different people will react to your character’s presence, as well as change the direction of Two Worlds’ story.

While determining what direction your moral compass will face, there will be plenty of opportunity to beat the tar out of your enemies.  Here combat will be semi-automatic, which means basic attacks like a simple swing of the sword are done automatically, while players do

more complicated, strategic attacks themselves.  What these fancy attacks may be remains to be seen, but it does appear that the ability to lay traps is among them.  In terms of magic, it looks like Two Worlds will take a somewhat alchemical approach, allowing players to gather supplies and build their own spells.

Besides all of this, Zuxxez has a number of other features planned for the game.  Players will be able to ride mounts for getting around quicker, such as horses, lizards, and other beasts.  Also, there will be various randomly generated item drops a la Diablo for all the treasure hunters out there.  And if one wants to play with their friends, Two Worlds will support up to eight people for multiplayer games.

Free roaming RPGs that let players do as they please can make for a good time, but it takes a strong mix of variety and focus to make them work.  It's a strange, conflicting combination, and it's not easy to pull off, but hopefully Reality Pump will be up to the challenge with Two Worlds.
