Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse
Games
based on a comic book license can often times be hit or miss. There’s been plenty of crap to come out over the years like the
notorious Superman 64, and pretty much every Spawn game ever made, but
there have been a fair number of great games to come out as well, like
the original Batman on the NES, or the recent Spider-Man games from
Neversoft.Another
comic-based title to do pretty well for itself in recent years is the
action RPG, X-Men Legends.Now
we have a sequel to this game, as Activision puts the finishing touches
on X-Men Legends 2, set to hit the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, PSP, and PC this
fall.
As
opposed to the previous game, in Legends 2 the X-Men, and Brotherhood
have decided to put their differences aside, so that they can
collectively deal with a new threat, led by a number of Apocalypse’s
minions, that looks like it will become a serious pain in the ass to
them both if left unchecked. While
it's always fun to lock horns with Apocalypse and the gang, what
most players will probably like about the story, though, is its open-endedness.Instead of being on the rails and going from point to point,
players will be able to make quite a few decisions that can impact the
direction the game’s story will go in.
As
with most comic-based games, there are high expectations as to which
heroes and villains will be in the game to play as.Legends 2 is going for a blend of the most popular characters in
the X-Men universe, allowing players to choose among the likes of
Wolverine, Bishop, Cyclops,
Magneto, Juggernaut, and a number of others as they make up their team.
Once
players choose their alter egos, they’ll have twice the
number of abilities at their disposal as was found in the original X-Men
Legends.On top of this,
players will be able to switch out abilities on the fly much quicker in
Legends 2.
Besides
the main story mode of the game, players will also be able to hop online
for competitive play, where two teams of six can clash. For PSP owns that snap up Legends 2, they’ll also have four
additional characters to choose from compared to the versions of the
game slated for other platforms.

The
original X-Men Legends received quite a bit of praise when it came out,
so it’s to be expected that a sequel would eventually be made.Looking at what Legends 2’s developers are pumping into the
game, it would seem that they are making sure it feels like a natural
step forward for the series, and not a cash grab.Fans of the X-Men can find out for themselves when the game is
released this fall.
