Mad World
Now here’s a game with some interesting visuals. So often, games go for bold, colorful graphics to show off what a console can do. What we have here is a monochromatic, film noire approach to style where the game’s graphics are all in black and white, with the occasional bit of red when blood starts to fly. Mad World looks to be bringing a very unique sort of visual presentation, coupled with fast-paced action in this Wii game.
Taking place in an ultra violent TV game show called Death Watch, players have to fight hordes of people in a giant city in order to stay alive, and also win a prize of 100 million dollars. Despite the game not even being out yet, groups are already complaining about the extreme levels of violence in it. However, the title’s developers at Sega insist that combat is done in such an over-the-top fashion that it’s impossible to take the violence too seriously.

As players wander the various zones, they’ll encounter countless others who are also fighting to get out of Death Watch. With each enemy you defeat, you rack up more points, and in time unlock different areas in the zone where you can get special bonuses for killing enemies there. In time, players will find themselves fighting the boss for the zone, and after winning it’s off to |

the next area for more fist-a-cuffs. It's not exactly re-inventing the wheel as far as gameplay in an action title goes, but it looks like Sega is tweaking it to be as fun as possible.
Of course, the one thing that is getting gamers all a-buzz more than anything else about Mad World is its graphics. The game has a very hand drawn comic book feel to it similar to the original TMNT comics (back when Eastman and Laird had full reign on it, and it was dark, and violent – none of this “kawabunga!” crap). Another parallel could be Sin City (the comic or the film, take your pick). Everything is in black and white, but when blood is shed there’s red popping up here and there and everywhere. It’s an interesting way to go, trying to draw the game in with a minimalist color palette, and using the red for accentuating the action.
Thankfully, we haven’t much longer to wait before this game comes out, as it’s set for a March release. Another month of waiting, and Wii owners can sink their teeth into some exceptionally stylish brawling.
