SSX Blur

It's been interesting to watch developers adjust how they make games to take advantage of the Wii’s controller.  Some have done a good job, and others not so much.  Of the upcoming games for the system, one that may prove the most interesting to keep an eye on is SSX Blur.  The series has always been about doing crazy tricks, and defying gravity, but how would one go about translating the controls of this from a standard controller to that of the Wii?

According to EA, SSX Blur will have a control scheme where players use the nunchuck to control their character on the ground, while using the Wiimote to perform tricks while their character is airborne.  Beyond this, it is unclear just what players will be doing in order to do tricks.  It wouldn’t be surprising if there was

lots of flicking and tilting of the Wiimote involved with it, but overall getting a grip on how the controls work looks like something we’ll have to play for ourselves.

While the control scheme is totally new in SSX Blur, there will be a fair amount of familiarity as characters such as Psymon, Kaori, Mac, and Allegra return.  There will also

be three separate mountains and twelve new tracks for players to carve down.  Also, the dynamic music score that has been in previous SSX games will be back, rising and lower its intensity in relation to what is happening in game.

What we have here is the basic SSX package with a major overhaul of the control scheme meant to conform to the Wii’s nunchuck and remote.  Given how over-the-top many of the moves already are in the SSX series, it has certainly peaked this writers interest as to how these stunts will translate onto the Wii.  Gamers will be able to see for themselves how this all turns out in a week of this year.
