It might have come a little late to the table, but College Sports 2K7 is definitely worth taking a look at.

If you are familiar with NBA 2K7 then you are going to feel right at home with this one. This game uses the same engine, although surprisingly NBA 2K7 actually looks a little better. The controls are slightly different, but nothing that will make you feel like you’re in foreign territory.

Getting started, you can play a quick game, enter a tournament, play a single game rivalry, or just get some practice to hone your skills. Legacy mode offers incredible depth; you control almost every aspect of the college ball experience. There are actually two parts to legacy mode: career legacy and open legacy. Open is a bit easier to get into but you’re going to have to start winning games right out of the gate or risk getting benched.

The environmental sounds are pretty important in a game like this and in the audio department this game delivers without question. The hundreds of chant songs included are great and you can even customize to a degree as well. The all new chant creator lets you make your own and it’s really easy to use.

The PS3 implementation is fairly solid. You can play on your console locally with six other players, and the six-axis motion control comes into play during foul shots (although I wasn’t great at mastering it). The online component is there but I had some difficulty with the network connection to play online – hopefully you will fare better.

The biggest disappointment for me was the 1080p implementation. It makes the frame rate crawl and it really doesn’t look any better than 1080i. If you have a standard definition television you are probably going to have some trouble with this game as well, it was clearly designed with HDTV in mind.

Overall this game delivers. It’s fun, playable and has the depth if you are serious about your college hoops. If you just want a quick game to get in and play, you’re taken care of in that department as well. It’s no slam dunk, but it’s far from being foul.
