Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07

Score: 8.5 / 10

The Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise from Electronic Arts always has had a reputation for being the most realistic golf offering on any console. That true-to-life status has just been raised higher with the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 for the Wii, which brings actual swing mechanics via the Wiimote to the game, resulting in the most realistic golfing yet presented for a console game. It obviously doesnít match the visual prettiness of its PS3 and Xbox 360 brethren, but looks arenít everything.

Using the Wiimote as a golf club, complete with actually standing in a golferís stance and swinging a simulated golf swing, raises the ante on how close to real golf Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 actually comes, especially because of how responsively accurate it is (although putting takes practice). There is an option to use the Wii Nunchuk in the more traditional timing swinging mechanism in play in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but anybody looking for a true challenge to test their golfing mettle should take on Tiger using the Wiimote. Thatís what really separates the men from the boys: proving that you have physical golfing ability

using a real golf swing versus the more simplistic mashing of buttons with the right timing to achieve success.

Despite the heavy simulation gameplay, there are still more arcade-style mini-game and Battle Golf modes (two players against each other; whoever wins the hole get to take one club away from their opponent) that appeals to gamers

looking for a quick fix with the virtual golf clubs without undertaking a full-fledged tournament or career contest. Unfortunately, thereís no online play, although four gamers can play a round, so itís not an entirely multiplayer-free title. But the single-player simulation-style golf is where Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is at its best, through the PGA Tour Season mode and even the Tiger Challenge.

Naturally, thereís a whole bevy of real-world courses and players in Tiger Woods PGA Golf 07. Among the 18 new courses are Firestone Country Club, Princeville, Spyglass Hill, Bandon Dunes and Glen Abbey. There are 15 golfers, including John Daly, Vijay Singh, Annika Sorenstam and as always, the best of the best, Tiger Woods. None of the courses are as beautiful or players as true-to-life rendered as both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but thatís expected, and despite being behind the graphical eight ball compared to the other two systems, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 isnít that bad-looking.

Simply put, no other golf console game can match the stellar Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 as far as bringing real-world golf skills to play on the virtual greens. With basically the same gameplay and modes found in its other next-generation counterparts (sans the upgraded visuals and online gameplay) but with the added bonus of the brilliant Wiimote swinging controls, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 comes up aces and eagles.
