Final Fantasy IX
Soundtrack
Released by: Tokyopop
Distributed
by: Electro House
Not
often do North American gamers get a domestic release of the musical
goodness that is Nobou Uematsu’s Final Fantasy soundtracks. Tokyopop
has brought an OST (Original Soundtrack) of Final Fantasy IX to North
America. Now hold your horses; don’t go running down to you’re local
game store looking for this disc just yet. While there are some nice
tracks on the CD, it is all music straight from Final Fantasy IX, it
doesn’t have any tracks that have been arranged for an orchestra, nor
are there any spruced up tracks. It’s the exact same low quality
MIDI-like instrument sounds, and the music certainly isn’t
Uematsu-san’s best work (that’s Final Fantasy VI).
The
tracks appear on the CD in the same order as they do in the game. While
there are some very good songs on the CD, like "A Place to Call
Home" and "Behind the Door" but tunes like the battle
theme and "Melodies of Life" are either very similar to
previous Final Fantasy tunes or are just a little hokey.
Nonetheless
it is a respectable CD, far better than a lot of videogame soundtracks
out there. If your looking for a Final Fantasy soundtrack, but you
don’t want to have to track down an import this CD is worth looking
for. Just don’t expect it to be of the legendary stature of some of
the other Final Fantasy soundtracks out there.
