This
is easily the most anticipated action figure of the year for collectors
and fans of the Evil Dead movies. Bottom line is that fans and
collectors won’t be disappointed, but the occasional toy buyer will
probably pass this one by.
McFarlane’s
attention to detail is exampled in this figure. The blood spatters, the
scratches, the hair, the half grimace, the chainsaw hand all look good
and is an accurate representation of Ash from the movie. The included
mini-movie poster isgreat and makes a good backdrop. Ash doesn’t do
much except stand there. The legs are rigid and so is the
sideways-looking neck. The mold doesn’t allow for much poseability,
just as we saw with the recent Medieval Spawn II. Hopefully McFarlane
eases back toward bendable knees and elbows from the statuesque forms.
The paint job is good. The blood is carefully applied and the dark tones
are accurate.

I
admit that I was looking forward to getting this figure. I wanted to
cement him to the top of my monitor but my wife didn’t agree. He does
look cool on my desk right next to my pen holder. Playability is limited
by the sculpt and the articulation but it’s still quite easy and to
set up battles between Ash and Darth Vader. A voice chip would have been
the cherry on top, especially since Ash is known for his one-liners.
"Gimme some sugar, baby."
Quibbles
aside, McFarlane has delivered the sugar.
This
is pure speculation but I think we’ll see an 18" deluxe Ash next
year.
