Bob and Doug McKenzie

by McFarlane Toys

SCTV spawned the careers of John Candy, Gene Lovitz, Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas. Rick and Dave got together and created Bob & Doug McKenzie, two beer-swilling brothers who were always on the lookout for free beer and donuts on sale.

Their show, Great White North, was the highlight of any episode of SCTV, and consisted mostly of them bickering, telling one another to, "Take off, you hoser." There was also a feature film, Strange Brew. And now on the dawn of a new millennium, McFarlane Toys releases these two perfect figures.

Bob & Doug are packaged separately but both must be purchased

to achieve any level of satisfaction. Each figure comes with half the stage set. The stage itself is in perfection proportion to the figures and the variety of accessories is staggering. There are bottles of

beer, cases of beer, donuts and bottle caps. Doug comes with a cooler with slots to put a few beer bottles in, and Bob comes with a Coleman stove, complete with back bacon! These are the penultimate Canadian action figures and will probably never be matched.

The figures themselves are perfect. That’s all there is to say. Perfect. The paint jobs are good, the articulation provides just the right poseability, and the sound clips suit them. They are the perfect editions to any bar or desk!

Note that I’m biased toward anything Canadian.
