Brad Goodman (The Simpsons)

by Playmates

brad goodman albert brooks the simpsons action figures

Something that has remained consistent with the Simpsons is the roster of celebrities that shows up.  You never know when Leonard Nimoy is going to drop by.

Brad Goodman, voiced by Albert Brooks, appeared in only one episode (to my knowledge) and will most likely appeal to hardcore collectors.  After all, if a character that has three seconds of film time in a Star Wars movie gets an action figure, why not create a character from a popular TV show that at least has some lines?  Kids won’t find much play value with Brad though.

He is entirely compatible with the rest of the figures in the Simpson line, but he’s not as recognizable as, say, Snake or Moe.  Who wants to play with a “no name” when you’ve got Homer, Barney, and Mr. Burns?  That being said, the traditional durability is present so if he does do some roughhousing – adjusting his Self-O-Stat – he’ll stay in one piece.  The accessories are small, so they can be lost, but as I say with every Simpson’s review, they’re cross compatible with the other figures. (This is especially good because Brad can’t hold the mug very well.)  If you have five or more figures you have enough accessories to equip

a dozen figures so if you lose one or two, no big deal.  Brad does pick up scuffmarks if you really put him through his paces or play with him outside in the elements.  But then that can be applied to just about any action figure.

Collectors will be most pleased with Brad.  The likeness is spot-on and one-shot figures tend to raise their secondary market price – if he’s kept in the package.  But if you’re like me, action figures just beg to be released from their plastic sarcophagi.  For display, Brad stands easily and once installed on a base is totally solid.  Poseability is limited by the four points of articulation – neck, shoulders, waist – but because this is consistent across the line, it manages to fit in.  Besides, he has the important pointed “index” finger allowing him to pitch his videos and books.  The sign “Brad Goodman’s Inner Child Workshop” just screams to have a diorama created just for Brad. (Similar to Disco Stu’s disco ball.)  Rigging something up isn’t hard and really gets the creative juices flowing.

The paint application is very good.  The colors are ripped right from the show and there’s no oversplash to lament.

Basically, Brad Goodman is another sterling example of a toy line done correctly.  A sturdy play toy (although with limited appeal to the younger crowd) and good collectibility and display factors, Brad Goodman’s a solid purchase.
