Brute Chieftain and Jackal Sniper (Halo 3) by McFarlane Toys

Acting as counter-points to Master Chief and the Spartans is no easy job, so it's good to see the same level of care and attention given to them as was given to the Spartans.  However, when it comes to joint strength... These guys have been drinking too much malk.

I snapped off the Brute's right hand when I tried to install his gravity hammer.  Small figure with even smaller ball-jointed articulation are always at risk of this danger but I wasn't expecting to snap off a hand right out of the gate.  And because that particular hand is completely necessary to hold the gravity hammer

correctly I had to break out the industrial strength glue. (He'll never hold the hammer correctly now.)

With the Jackal Sniper the gun just doesn't fit that snuggly in its hands.  It didn't seem to matter what I do, he still doesn't hold it like he knows how to use it.

Brute and the Jackal are full of texture and fine points of detail.  The sculpts are great but they do have some issues around stability, especially Jackal, which will fall over with very little encouragement.  The Brute has large feet and a traditional body type but the Jackal is spindly and not much in the way of feet.  A small, clear stabilizing disc could have easily made this a non-issue.

From a playability standpoint, they're both relatively good to play with, aside from the fact Jackal feels slightly flimsy.  These figures are in line when it comes to overall scale of the line so nothing seems out of place if your Spartans are all lined up on a shelf and they want some target practice.  And then there are diorama options as well -- nothing like the massive scale model from those "Believe" ads because you'd need a bunch of UNSC Marines, but there's still multiplayer diorama potential if you're willing to put in some time.  Both the Brute and the Jackal are mobile enough to allow a wide range of poseability (provided they can be secured to something).  And, taking a cue from the game and the Joyride figures, the Brute and Chieftain guns can be used by the Spartans!  (It's not always effective, but it is an option.)

I've said this already about McFarlane's Halo 3 figures but if you're a fan, you'll want to snap up either of these figures though I would lean toward the Brute just because of the stability issues.
