Busted Krusty the Clown (The Simpsons)

by Playmates

busted krusty the clown action figure

Part of the problem with the Simpsons action figures is that with the 9th Series we’ve all come to expect a certain high standard in regard to presentation and playability. For Busted Krusty the Clown the latter remains intact but he takes a hit

in the presentation department.

I’m not sure if it’s the paint job or the sculpt that makes Krusty's face look like he escaped from a Wallace and Grommit claymation film, but I’m leaning toward the paint job. It looks smudged or off-color. It’s uneven at any rate and because every other Simpson figure I’ve ever reviewed has been so perfect that

when a flaw appears it really jumps out. Of course, this may not apply to every Krusty figure and it’s not noticeable at a distance so maybe I’m just being anal-retentive.

The sculpt does hit Krusty’s worried likeness. His clothes and accessories hit the bulls-eye as well. I especially like the crease to show his bulging gut. The attention to detail is good and the paint (in this case) has been applied with a steady hand – if this weren’t so, it would be very easy to spot as white and royal blue contrast pretty well. Each accessory is also good. Krusty comes packed with a bag of money, a number 4 placard, a pair of handcuffs (with one
opening cuff) and, surprisingly, a handgun. Krusty’s hands are molded to hold the gun and the moneybag quite easily, plus he can hold numerous other Simpson accessories.

Articulation is the standard four points: waist, shoulders, and neck. This doesn’t allow much in the way of poseability, but it does make him stable and the accessories can add some spice. Installed on a playset, Krusty’s display value is heightened; unfortunately he doesn’t have much to say (via the Intelli-Tronic system) as he only works with the Police Station and the upcoming Main Street environments.

Playability, as always, is near the top. Although the accessories can be lost since they’re on the small side, his durability and excellent compatibility with the rest of the line more than compensate. Let’s face it, the entire Simpsons line is very playable – I’ve said this more than few times. Just get a couple of figures together and go adventuring! (What else would he do with that gun?) Just a word on Krusty’s durability; he survived 9 minutes through the dryer. I didn’t know he was in there until I heard a constant banging. He was definitely warm, but otherwise unscathed. (My son must have put him in there, because I’m way too mature for that – contrary to any arguments by my wife.)

While Busted Krusty the Clown doesn’t quite match the craftsmanship of the rest of the Simpson line, he still helps to round out your collection and possess good play possibilities.
