Candyman (Movie Maniacs)

by McFarlane Toys

I'll be up-front about this: Candyman is the lame duck of the fourth Movie Maniacs series. Essentially, he's a guy in a long coat with a hook for a right hand.

In the tradition of the Movie Maniacs line, Candyman has very good detail. The facial features and sculpt is great. But he's just not exciting. Part of the problem is

that his coat isn't molded to stay open. His torso is ripped open from throat to belt buckle but the gore is nearly completely covered by his huge coat. A small section of his upper chest can be seen but it sure doesn't match the picture shown on the back of the card. (A bit of glue and creativity can solve this problem.) Candyman's internal

parts look good -- in that exposed guts sort of way. His hook hand is kind of menacing but because the arm isn't articulated well (with seam joints at the shoulder, wrist, and hook) you can't do much to put him in a more menacing pose.

And why is it that all the Movie Maniac figures all look to the left? Candyman is no different and because of the sculpt he only looks right when looking left. His stock pose looks almost like he should be using the Force to lift and X-wing out of a swamp. I'm sure that some customizer out there is turning him into a Mace Windu figure. In short, Candyman is more sculpture than action figure.

Playability is somewhat limited owed to the sculpture tendencies. I didn't play with him much because what can he do? Swivel his arms in a windmill fashion and spin his ankles.

For display purposes (that's all he's really good for anyway) he comes with the standard mini-movie poster back drop. Position his feet properly and he has no problem standing.
