C&C Renegade Vehicles

by Joyride Studios

Orca

Stealth Tank

The eternal struggle between the noble GDI and the insidious NOD continues!  Taken right from Command & Conquer: Renegade, these to-scale toys are perfect for any C&C fan.  And if you bought the Mammoth and Flame tanks you can arrange some very impressive dioramas – mostly due to the incredible number of little rubber men you’ll have to play around with.

Both the GDI Orcas and NOD Stealth Tank come packed with 10 infantry figures each – five NOD, five GDI.  If you have the other two vehicles this means you’ve got 40 (!) of the little guys at your disposal.  Because all the vehicles are to scale with one another you can squeeze some truly massive battles out of the complete set.  Of course, the little guys can go missing quite easily because they are so small, but you’ve got so many it doesn’t really become a problem unless you lose a lot of them.

The vehicles are also to scale with the MechWarrior figures and the planes from Medal of Honor (both from Joyride).  I don’t know if this was intentional, but it certainly allows diorama builders much creative freedom.

The vehicles – the Orcas and Stealth Tank – are finely crafted, although the Orca tends to be as durable as an eggshell (sticking even closer to the game source).  You have to be careful when playing around with the Orcas because they have folding landing gear and other small protuberances that can be snapped.  The Flame tank is much more solid and sports real rubber tank treads, like the Mammoth and Flame Tanks.  These treads can tear under heavy play but I appreciate the attention to detail.  Speaking of detail, the paint job is very good and is highlighted by scratches to the bodywork.  The “head” of the tank swivels too (and is very hard to snap off).

For C&C fans this purchase is a no-brainer.  For casual buyers, they’re still pretty cool war toys with plenty of play potential.  Now, if Joyride would just turn their attention to Red Alert's roster of vehicles…
