With
the huge success of the Spider-man film, it was inevitable that there
would be a great mass of action figures filling the toy shelves.
The franchise has brought us not one, but two versions of the film's
villain, the Green Goblin, each with a different upside; either
supporting great articulation and a normal Glider (Series 1), or average
articulation with a souped-up Glider (Series 2 - There is also a third
"Battle Ravaged" version in the making). Today we'll look at
the Super-Poseable Green Goblin.
Green
Goblin comes with an excellent sculpt showing lots of details dead-on
with the film counterpart. The costume's metallic green is highlighted
with bright gold and silver wires on the upper arms and legs, with good
paint application all over. The signature mask has a wonderfully evil
likeness to the creepy mask donned by Willem Dafoe, and is removable (the pained face of Norman Osborne
underneath). The likeness to Dafoe
here is ok, not spectacular - the negative comes from the strange
expression he has. Though reminiscent of the final Green Goblin scene in
the film, it doesn't look threatening or insane and isn't fitting of the
Green Goblin character.
Like
the Super-Poseable Spider-Man, Green Goblin is heavily articulated: with
over 30 points of articulation, including ball-jointed shoulders and
legs, and at least 5 joints on each limb, the Green Goblin can fight,
mambo, pole-vault, pose, model, or throw mock Pumpkin Bombs
at
your
other toys. I really like the articulation on Goblin, allowing him to do so much
other toys can't, and he retains excellent
detail (like the Spider-Man Classics and the recent Marvel Legends).
Setting this guy apart from the Super-Poseable Spidey is the articulated
hands, which can be closed into fists. This articulation
allows the Green Goblin to hold other toy's accessories, adding to his
play value.
The
Green Goblin comes with two accessories; his signature mask as
mentioned, and the awesome glider. Straight from the film, the glider is
wonderfully detailed with

purple and silver
metallics, and includes
pegged footholds (to keep the Green Goblin on the glider) and non-removable pumpkin bombs. Its "wings" are articulated with
nicely sculpted hydraulic details, and are even removable. Kids will
like this accessory to fly the Green Goblin after Spidey, causing all
kinds of playful terror, and collectors will like displaying the Green
Goblin on the glider. To aid with display, the glider has a clear
plastic stand to hold it a couple of inches above the display surface --
a nice addition. Green Goblin also stands up to play – both the figure
and glider are durable.
Overall,
this Green Goblin figure is a great toy to own. Both versions of the
Green Goblin come with a replica of the glider, but the other version
has removable, fireable pumpkin bombs and is more detailed – though
the figure sacrifices all of its great articulation. I prefer this
version, though collectors with deep pockets may want to buy both to get
the nicely articulated figure on the souped-up glider. But for the kids
and collectors who like the Green Goblin film character or collect
Spidey toys, this is a great purchase.
