He-Man (Masters of the Universe) by Hasbro

In the ‘80s, He-Man dominated the toy aisles along with GI Joe and the original Transformers. Lately, there has been quite a revival of ‘80s action figures due in large part to the twentysomethings trying to reclaim all the action figures that mysteriously "disappeared." Lets be blunt, our parents threw them away!

One of the more popular figures in the Masters of the Universe line is He-Man. He-Man only has five points of articulation but they are in all the right places. His body is hard plastic but his head is hollow rubber, which allows for easy head squishing. Be warned though, whatever fun you get from collapsing his head will be short lived if it doesn’t spring back to its normal state. My He-Man once went around for three days looking like a steel girder had

smacked him in the face. The mold for the head is very good and captures his cartoon likeness, a kind of grimace, very well. The molded hands are perfect and do a good job of holding the accessories that he comes with: a shield, sword and battle-axe. He-Man’s breastplate (if I can call it that) can be unlatched at the back and taken off, but don’t because it’s frustrating getting it back on. (It’s a lot like a bra when you think about it.) The paint job is very good. Getting He-Man to stand on his own is very difficult due to the mechanics of his legs, but he is meant to be played with so it’s a mote point.

He-Man is one tough mother. He was built to last. My He-Man once spent an entire winter in the garden due to my inability to remember where I buried him. In the spring when my mother started doing work in the garden she uncovered him. A rinse in some warm soapy water was all it took to restore him to health. His painted-on hair was a bit peeled but otherwise in pristine condition! It’s true, the arms can be pried off quite easily but they can just as easily be snapped back on. And since nearly all the Masters of the Universe figures have the same torso mold you can swap arms between figures!

He-Man is legend, as is his action figure.
