LA6 (Spawn Interlink)

by McFarlane Toys

Spawn: Interlink is an exercise in demonic robots and none appear more demonic than LA6. Somewhere between an over-excited game show host and a metallic spider is Interlink Spawn’s right arm, LA6.

LA6 is superbly detailed. Every area, front, back, top and bottom has had much care and attention paid to it. In fact, there isn’t one specific area I can point to and say, "That’s the best part about LA6." The head and face sculpt are very detailed, especially the teeth, which are exposed in a menacing grin. The paint job complements the sculpt to make this figure one of the most pleasing to look upon (in the series). Colour is evenly applied and there is no oversplash. Obviously, one of LA6’s biggest attractions is his shoulder-mounted mechanical spider arms. The mounts are detachable and can be taken apart, so if you want a more human-looking robot just remove them. Considering how big the mounts are, LA6 is fairly balanced. His feet are the smallest of the series so getting the balance just right takes a few seconds. Small knocks will send him tumbling off your mantelpiece though. For best display I suggest leaning him up against something. The points of articulation are placed in strategic places to allow a wide range of movement and poses.

When LA6 is wearing his shoulder mounts, I wouldn’t suggest playing with him. The little arachnid arms are just too small and easy to snap off under moderately rough play. And since the mounts themselves can be separated into individual parts, you’ll be searching for lost pieces constantly. In fact, the ratio of searching for pieces to actual play time (in minutes) is 2 to 5. This is a problem for most of the Interlink figures so this comes as no surprise. Playing with LA6 without the mounts is a better idea but it still doesn’t eliminate the risks of damaging him. There are several small rubber hoses on LA6, mainly around his shins,

but there are two on his right arm that snap off extremely easily. It’s a complicated matter to reattach them with glue. Articulation is fairly good – even without the spider arms. (Most of the joints are of the seam variety.) Attaching him to TS2 (to form Interlink Spawn) is accomplished by swinging down RA3’s head, which is hinged to his chest, and pegging him to TS2’s shoulder. Even after unhinging his head a few dozen times, it still managed to remain snug when in the correct position. When unhinged, LA6 faces his crotch. Not the greatest way to check your fly – but when you’re an evil looking robot, who’s going to say anything? LA6 fits right in with the rest of the Interlink line-up. He’s the smallest of the series – earning him the nickname "Shorty" – even with his shoulder mounts on. Kids probably won’t gravitate to him – he’s just too evil looking. It’s a self defense mechanism since rough play would reduce LA6 to a pile of assorted pieces.

When it comes right down to it, LA6 is a display figure more than a play toy. Collectors will want him for his detail and colour and to complete Interlink Spawn. Kids will probably give it a miss.
