M. Bison (Street
Fighter)
by SOTA
Toys

I’m really grooving on what SOTA has done with the
Street Fighter license. M. Bison, the character I cursed more than any other
during my rabid arcade days – console games are like methadone for me – has been
replicated perfectly here

right down to the real cloth cape and lightning
bolt belt buckle.
Like Sagat, M. Bison features a load of articulation (in the neighborhood of 20
points) and almost all of them are useful for posing purposes. There are
ball-joints at the hips and elbows; hinge joints at the wrist, elbow, torso,
knees, ankles and toes. In concert with the

additional seam joints at the waist, wrists, and mid-foot, it makes for one very
poseable figure. Replicating moves from the game isn’t easy but he can still be
manipulated into all sorts of intimidating and cool poses.
Besides the two heads and four hands (fist and open hand) that come packed with
the figure, Bison also comes with a “power glove” which can be fitted over
either fist hand. Presumably this is to be used to create a sense of movement,
like he’s swinging around for a punch.
Stability is very good. I’m continually amazed at how far I can push Bison in
terms of maintaining his balance. Of course, not all poses are stable but with
the amount of articulation SOTA packed into the Bison he can always be kept
“fresh” for display (and the extra appendages don’t hurt either). The sculpt and
paint application are super.
As we’ve seen with SOTA’s other Street Fighter figures, they aren’t afraid of
visible articulation points. Even though they’re clearly visible it sure doesn’t
affect the overall appeal of the figure. That said, there are a few points of
articulation hidden. The “skirt” of his uniform hides the ball-jointed hips
underneath and the blend is so well done with the torso that you might miss the
seam joint at the waist. The paint job is a direct translation of Bison’s
videogame counterpart and amazingly doesn’t pick up scratch marks as easily as
some other figures.
The only aspect that holds Bison back from having a higher playability score is
that the cloth cape is at risk of becoming tattered and torn. Fortunately, the
cape can be removed by simply pulling out the pegs that hold it to Bison’s
shoulders. It’s a simple touch but it helps preserve the overall presentation
value of the figure. The extra hands and head can be lost, but with a modicum of
care this can be prevented. Bison is highly compatible with the other Street
Fighter figures, but there’s no denying that there are all sorts of play/diorama
opportunities.
SOTA scores again!
