NHL
Hockey (Series 6): Part I
When
Omni informed me that he was sending me some action figures, my first
response was to ask how desperate he was to ask me to handle the
task. Some crying later, here I am writing this review. The three
figures in question are: Patrick Roy, Teemu Selanne, and Niklas Lidstrom
all of whom look absolutely fab.
Nicklas
Lidstrom
First
to the perennial Norris Trophy holder Niklas Lidstrom. ‘Nik looks
downright defensive in his figure with his Easton gear in high profile
and a facial expression that screams “I hear someone behind me!”
This figure just looks great but only has 5 articulation points – each
knee, each wrist, and the neck. Some minor color transfers were apparent
under close scrutiny – but then the bulk of the figure is white so
it’s not that big a deal. With the set post on the figure, his balance
is excellent and couldn’t fall over despite my best efforts.
Teemu
Selanne
Next
to one of Colorado’s big free agent pickups: Finnish superstar Teemu
Selanne. The detail on this figure is good, with a few color transfers
appearing on the white of the jersey. I must admit, this figure is my
favorite of the three with the visor looking just plain cool especially
with the slight distortion effect that you see when staring at the face
directly. Teemu has six points of articulation: both knees, both wrists,
the neck, and his left shoulder (which seems to serve no discernable
purpose with the left hand being sealed). Despite the different stance,
Teemu is sturdy and although easier to tip he’s downright stoic and
won’t fall down unless really poorly placed.
Patrick
Roy
Finally,
the recently retired Patrick Roy who looks downright saintly between the
pipes. The painting on Saint Patrick is perfect with no transfer errors
and an especially cool scuffing of the tape on the stick blade. Patrick
features 3 points of articulation: both knees and left wrist (catching
glove).That said, Patrick
is more likely to fall over than either Teemu or Niklas… but all times
that he fell over he still managed to hold onto the puck in his catching
glove (a sign of a good goaltender). The net with Patrick had a few
minor issues. The edges of the net were sticking out in places, so I was
forced to use clippers and glue to fix its appearance. The net also has
a tendency to disassemble when moved, but that’s nothing a little CA
glue couldn’t fix.
Playability
of the three figures is downright ‘nil unless done by someone
intoxicated, imaginative, or a combination of those; however, they do
make excellent desk ornaments and cool paperweights. Once again, nice
work by the McFarlane group.
