NHL
Legends Series 2: Part II
Grant
Fuhr (left)l; Mike Bossy (middle); Wayne Gretzky (right)
Series
02 of the NHL Legends run continues with the gorgeous figures of Grant
Fuhr, Mike Bossy, and Wayne Gretzky in his Los Angeles jersey. Unlike
the 3 previously reviewed figures, these 3 were of better quality and
showed improved detail.
Grant
Fuhr
The
only goalie that I know of who used to like getting 40-50 pucks a night
of work, and in the Edmonton system of the 80’s he saw a lot of rubber
at high velocity. Besides being one hell of a nice guy, his figure shows
Grant in a nice kick-save on a floating puck. With Grant in his old
school “psychopath” face protector, it definitely brings back some
great memories. Very nice use of the puck on this figure, but this
display was the biggest headache to set up with the net that just
didn’t want to fit together. Taking an embarrassing 18 minutes to
assemble, this was not my favorite net to put together to date. Also, my
“ice base” had a nasty series of color transfer smears that blemish
an otherwise cool piece.
Mike
Bossy
The rookie goal scoring champion (until Teemu Selanne came along)
and one hell of a dangerous sniper on the ice is the next figure. Mike
is circling with his arm and stick raised in triumph and his eyes up in
the rafters. Detail is nice, one knee was a little loose, but a touch of
epoxy fixed that. Good figure, but I’m sure that I won’t be allowed
to show this figure in case any of my Vancouver Canuck friends come
by… they still hate him for the Cup win in ’82.
Wayne
Gretzky #5
The Great One in his royal white and black home jersey. Circling
like a bird of prey, he has his eyes up-ice for a chance to jump into
the play once again. Right hand pose is a little awkward looking and the
white jersey shows up a series of black paint transfers all over the
figure; nothing serious, but definitely noticeable under close or direct
scrutiny.
All in all, these three figures were definitely better than the
other three in the series, but still not as good as previous McFarlane
releases. Worth having for the serious collector.
