Sagat (Street Fighter)

by SOTA Toys

sagat street fighter

I like this figure for a number of reason but the principle one is that Sagat is wearing the official colors of the Armchair Empire: yellow and Royal blue.

That almost makes it sound as if Sagat’s has so few redeeming qualities that he

wouldn’t be worth the money, as if the colors are the high point. That would be an incorrect assumption.

Part of the first Street Fighter series from SOTA Toys, Sagat stands an impressive 8” tall and features a terrific 21-points of articulation and interchangeable hands and an extra head. Articulation points include a hinged torso,

ball-jointed shoulders and hips, and a seam joint in the middle of each foot. The detailed sculpt is bang on even though SOTA didn’t shy away from visible articulation points. Some of the seam joints are unobtrusive and hardly noticeable but most of the hinged articulation is obvious even from a distance. But you soon get past that and can really appreciate the engineering that went into all that articulation.

Sagat is incredibly poseable even if he’s not that stable in some poses. Having the extra set of hands and two heads (easily swapped in and out) adds to the overall display value.

Playability is huge with this figure as is the case with the entire first Street Fighter series. Not only is he perfectly to scale with the other Street Fighter figures, he’s also durable (though you should put his extra parts in a safe place so they don’t get lost). Some of the joints tend to loosen under extended play but they don’t snap.

Now that video game characters are really hitting plastic, more than a few video game grudge matches can finally be settled. Master chief vs. M. Bison? Solid Snake vs. Sagat? So until Capcom develops a “Capcom vs. Everyone” game we have the next best thing. And if you don’t want to be seen playing with your toys, there’s the possibility of dioramas.

SOTA Toys definitely hit a homerun with their Street Fighter series, Sagat in particular thanks to the great color choices. The details are right, the color is accurate and it’s durable while still being articulated out the wazoo.

Street Fighter fans, get your wallets out!
