Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII)

Estuans interius ira vehementi Estuans interius ira vehementi Sephiroth Sephiroth

Man, that theme song will never leave my head. I don’t know if any of you have noticed, but when I know a lot of background about a character, I tend to start off with a brief profile of him/her when I review the figure or statue or whatever it may be. I don’t think I will bother with Sephiroth. He’s already infamous and with the upcoming release of the game’s CGI movie sequel “Advent Children.” I don’t think the legions of Sephiroth fans will die out anytime soon.

Along with the other FFVII cold cast resin statues, Sephiroth was released either 7 or 8 years ago. When the line went out of production there were still many fans who wanted to get their hands on these. Embarrassing enough to admit, I was one of the many. Sellers on eBay made a huge profit on Sephiroth alone, a figure that would sometimes cost around $400US! Sephiroth is easily my favorite villain of anything, but I just didn’t have that kind of money to spend on a statue. Thankfully, Koto decided to re-release the line through Diamond and other retailers online starting last year for a reasonable price of $74US (some statues were less and some more). I ordered Cloud Strife back in June and Sephiroth in July. They were supposed to come in October and November but the line was delayed. The wait was more than worth it! Sephiroth is easily the best looking collectable I have in the house.

Standing approximately 9" tall (on base) Sephiroth packs a lot of detail. His sculpting is superb and the likeness is dead on, in fact the best craftsmanship I’ve ever seen. The hair looks perfect, the trench coat, the boots and the head. He stands tall on an elegant base that has the FFVII logo on it. (The picture above doesn’t show the same base.)

Sephiroth’s paint application is just as beautiful as his sculpting job. The hair has more than one tone of silver and so does his shoulder armor. The way they applied the black tones to

the trench coat makes it look realistic. There is no imperfection I can spot.

The only problem I have with the statue is Sephiroth’s giant sword, the masamune. The blade is a separate piece from the handle and it’s kind of flimsy. If you have young children or younger siblings around, (or in my case a reckless older sibling), then be extra cautious. Appearance wise, the sword is perfect.

I cannot get over the amount of detail that Koto has put into this statue and I would have to more than highly recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of Final Fantasy VII.
