Sunday Best Marge & Maggie (The Simpsons) by Playmates

Is it me or does Marge’s hat look like a dog dish?  It just looks funny even though it stays true to the cartoon original.  Maggie’s hat looks a lot more like a hat, instead of something that Santa’s Little Helper should be eating out of.

Sunday Best Marge & Maggie cap off the Sunday Best sub-series; we’ve already seen Homer, Lisa, and Bart in their nice clothes.  Both Marge and Maggie fit right in.  The only real flaw I can point out is Marge’s fat ankles and her slightly Stepford Wives vibe.  But overall, she still hits the high notes set by previous Simpson figures.  She has the typical four points of articulation and snaps nicely into the playsets. (Maggie has a seam joint at her neck.)  The color is also nice, grabbing the cartoon likeness with ease.

As Marge is a “flagship” character she’s compatible with just about every Interactive Environment judging by the list on the cardback.

The sculpt and paint are very good.  Marge’s left arm is bent to hold either her purse or “Good Book” accessories.  The positioning of her right arm and hand means Marge can’t hold both at the same time.  The dog-dish hat fits loosely atop her head, which is in contrast to Maggie’s hat that snaps into place much like Sunday Best Lisa’s.  But don’t be too concerned about losing either.  I’ve said before that the accessory cross-compatibility of the Simpsons line is probably its strongest asset, mostly because it adds so much playability to your Simpsons collection.

And sorry if I sound a bit like a broken record but Marge & Maggie are highly playable – not just by themselves but in conjunction with the other figures in your collection (which has probably reached GI Joe proportions among hardcore collectors).  It really is possible to re-enact whole episodes!

Marge & Maggie also give you the chance to snag Be Sharp Homer.  You need four proofs of purchase from four series 10 figures (and a $5 shipping/handling fee) and Homer is yours – provided you live in the United States.  But if that doesn’t encourage you to purchase Marge & Maggie, you should still grab the pack to round out the Sunday Best sub-series and make your collection that much more playable (and complete).
