T-800 and T-1000 (Movie Maniacs) by McFarlane
Toys

These two are like steak and potatoes, peas and
carrots, People magazine and a trip to the bathroom – they’re inseparable. This
is why I’m reviewing them together.
Both T-800 (an unrecognizable Schwaznegger) and T-1000 (Robert Patrick) are the
best Terminator 2 action figures ever. The sculpts, detail, and accessories are
all

not very articulated you’ll always be able to
change something to make him look like a new figure. One torso is the "surf"
version while the other is the more conservative
hole-through-the-right-eye-and-out- the-back look. The hole-through-the-head
torso also sports several silver wounds on the front and back. He also comes
packed with those famous hook hands. His arms are removable just above the
elbows so you can mix and match to suit your mood. The color is also very good.
The detail and sculpt is very good. He’s a dead ringer for Robert Patrick. Which
brings us to playability. Of the two, T-1000 has the most possibilities, mainly
due to Robert Patrick’s current role on the X-Files and the X-Files figures
McFarlane released a few years ago. However, he’s got a lot of pieces to lose.
His arms can disappear, his handgun can vanish, and his belt can go missing when
you change torsos.
Display is surprisingly good. Even with the surf torso he’s solid on his feet.
Strong vibrations will knock him over though.
T-800
The early sculpts showed a very Arnold-esque T-800, but due to whatever legal
crap that goes on behind the scenes, the facial detail was changed to the
"chewed" face. We all know who it’s supposed to be, but I think the exposed
endoskeleton actually looks better even though it deviates from the movie.
T-800 suffers from a lack of articulation and static pose. He reminds me a lot
of Snake Plissken (MM3) with his left arm straight out and his right practically
immobile. The detail and sculpt are great. His bullet-hole riddled leather
jacket is true to the movie, and the exposed endoskeleton at the chest and left
knee are nice touches. What articulation is included is unobtrusive. You’ll
hardly notice the seam joints just above his boots, at the waist and thighs.
It’s done very well.
Playability suffers in comparison to T-1000. His weapons – a handgun and grenade
launcher – are hard to get in his hands. Once they’re in place they’re not that
easy to remove. His bandolier of extra grenades fits pretty well too, but it’s
easy to lose. And his sculpt means you’ll really have to use your imagination if
you want to play with him. He’s more display piece – something to stand near
your collection of sci-fi DVDs. He can be tippy too, so have him some place that
won’t get rattled every time you go past.
Of course, you can always play with both T-1000 and T-800 to re-enact scenes
from the movie, or set them up in a diorama. T-1000 comes with so much stuff to
swap, I a split head was included. (Remember the scene in the mental hospital as
they’re trying to escape in the elevator and T-800 blasts T-1000 with a shotgun
right in the face?) I actually think we could see a deluxe version of T-1000 if
there’s enough demand. He’d come in one of the fishtank display cases with
oodles of interchangeable parts, including a big section of checkered floor.
