T-X Terminatrix (Terminator 3) by McFarlane Toys

As if to address my own personal complaints, McFarlane Toys has sculpted Terminatrix facing to the right.

If you’re a regular reader of the Armchair Empire, there’s one thing I’ve consistently harped on about McFarlane’s movie licensed properties (such as the Movie Maniacs line). That is, the figures, almost without exception, face left. Terminatrix faces

right – and drastically so. In fact, in any other position than the default one she just looks wrong. I’d go one step further; Terminatrix doesn’t even need neck articulation.

The other articulation points – seams at the forearm, elbow and shoulders – make sense and allows for some poseability but not much. (Her lower half is completely immobile.) To up her display factor,

she has interchangeable hands: three human hands and one machine hand. One of the human hands and the machine hand can hold the handgun, but the human hand does a better job. Swapping them in and out is difficult – someone has to perfect this method – but once they’re in, they’re in to stay. (At least until the next time you want to huff and puff, and pull them out.)

Sculpting is excellent. I’m not sold on the actual outfit, but it is very well sculpted and painted. Since it’s based on a movie figure the facial sculpt has received a good level of detail, right down to the corners of her eyes. Does she look like her movie counterpart? Yes, which is exactly what we want. (I'm sure some of you are waiting for a neon pink bikini variant, which is what you want.)

Display with other T3 figures is a great way to show her off, just don’t expect to get much in terms of play value. At best, playability is weak. There are diorama possibilities but slamming her into other T3 figures (or other action figures for that matter) ceases to be fun after the third throw. You also have to be wary of losing her extra hands and handgun, which would really hurt your display options.

Terminatrix comes with a “coaster” base, so I suggest that you install her on it – she’s unstable when not on the base – and have her on display along with your other Terminator figures. She’ll appeal more to fans, and to them I’ll recommend her.
