Wings of Redemption Spawn 2 (Spawn 34)
In part, I described the original Wings of Redemption Spawn as "one of the coolest Spawn figures to date" but a real bugger to keep standing. I would still adhere to my original opinion but a lot has changed in the field of action figures since 2002 and other more dynamic figures, Spawn or otherwise, have been delivered. This |

"sequel" figure presents a better figure than the original, but with far less play value.
For this figure, the balance problem has been overcome. The figure comes packed with a small base, sculpted to resemble a small rocky outcropping, which accommodates a short metal pole that plugs into Spawn's foot. Once the package is assembled, with the |

base pointing the one direction that keeps the figure standing, there's not much more to do than stand back and appreciate the detail.
The wings plug into Spawn's back easily, but with any kind of handling the wings have a tendency to fall out. This isn't a problem if you're not playing with the figure but if you have kids around Spawn will get thrown around - it does have wings after all. Everything else about the figure is actually solid; there weren't random parts falling off it.
The detail is high and the sculpt is good, inasmuch as you need to have this figure displayed above eye level for any appearance of drama, like he's lowering himself from the sky. On any shelf at or below eye level, the figure actually doesn't present very well. Because of the very specific sculpt and lack of useful articulation - would it wreck the look if there were some balljoints? I doubt it - the figure's head can't be repositioned, which means it's always looking down. Ever since the early days of the Armchair Empire I've always said McFarlane Toys should include more articulation so I won't repeat it here... sorry, I did it anyway. I do like the sculpt but giving me the chance to re-pose the figure would be welcome.
