Nintendo has
released their first quarter results for the three months ending June
30, 2005. The company made an overall profit of approximately
3.754 billion yen, down 78.5% compared to last year at this time, when
they posted a profit of 17.467 billion yen over the same period.
The decrease compared to last year is largely blamed on lagging console
hardware / software sales, as well as continued runoff from the launch
of the DS at the end of 2004.
The company also
posted a variety of sales figures for their various products. In
the last quarter, Nintendo sold 980,000 Gameboy Advance systems, making
for a total of just under
68
million units sold of the GBA over its lifetime. In terms of
Nintendo DS sales, the handheld sold approximately 1.38 million units in
the last quarter, bringing total life-time sales of the DS to 6.65
million units. The Gamecube, however, sold 260,000 units last
quarter, bringing life-time sales of the console to18.76 million units.
