At a
presentation in Japan by Sony, a number of new features have been
announced for the company's portable game system, the PSP.
Firstly, the handheld will be getting a web browser, which will support
up to HTML 4.01, though it will not play Flash at this time.
Besides standard web browsing, PSP owners will also be able to use the
system as a TV, accessing content from a new service called Personal TV
(P-TV). What has yet to be decided with the TV programs is whether
or not people will have to pay for the content. P-TV is expected
to go live in Japan on July 27 of this year.
Besides info
regarding new connectivity and downloadable content for the PSP, Sony
has also announced that the handheld will soon also be available in
white. There is no word, yet, as to how much this new PSP will
sell for at retail.
With all of
these enhancements coming to the PSP in the near future, a new firmware
update is also planned for the system in Japan. Expect that to be
available the same day P-TV is currently slated to launch, July 27.
