During his
keynote presentation at the Game Developers Conference today, Sony's
Phil Harrison said that in-game advertising will be an important part of
the PlayStation 3. How tasteful these ads will be implemented
remains to be seen. In the meantime, here's the
official party
line on the matter:
“We’re moving from a disc-based business to a network-based business, with more complex revenue streams,” Harrison said. “PlayStation Network Platform can augment the current business model with content downloads, episodic
content. Later adding, "Games can have the same social currency as a great TV show, like Lost or 24.”
